Top 3 Best Philly Cheesesteaks by a Chef

Philadelphia’s most famous sandwich is the cheesesteak. Why is it so great?! Who’s got the best in Philly?! See what the debate is all about. It’s great because it’s the perfect combo of chopped or sliced steak, melted cheese, salt, sweet fried onions, and a soft Italian hoagie roll. If you come to the area, you must try one of their cheesesteaks. The sandwich was created at the Italian Market in 1933 by Pat Olivieri, the King of Steaks, which makes it the most classic and iconic sandwich in town. Now let’s get into some of the best cheesesteaks rated by a native Chef.

See Chef Jacquie’s Top 3 favorites:

  1. Angelos Pizzeria: The number one cheesesteak on the list is Angelo’s Pizzeria in South Philly. It sets the bar high with melted Cooper Sharp, layered into warm, homemade, toasty, and crackly seeded rolls. Gotta love great bread! It’s cash only – and the quality and taste make it worth the line to wait! Angelo’s lines got longer for having some of the best pizza in South Philly after Barstool Sports  gave them a rave review! What few people know is you must try their unbelievable cheesesteak – they make their own bread, folks we got a winner!

  1. Jim’s Steaks: Jim’s Steaks opened in 1939 and were selling cheesesteaks out of their home in West Philly. The location on South Street began in 1976 during the bicentennial celebration. Jim’s Steaks opened 6 years after Pat Olivieri invented the first steak sandwich in 1933. They would argue that their cheesesteaks are seasoned well and always made with love. Although the line may sometimes stretch out of the door for a taste of Jim’s Steaks, the smell of the fresh beef on the grill and sizzling onions proves that these cheesesteaks are worth the wait!

  1. Dalessandro’s: Opened in 1960 in Roxborough, Dalessandro’s has two elements that bring this coveted sandwich to its delicious glory: good quality meat and fantastic bread! While enjoying your stay in Philly, head outdoors to the Wissahickon Trail and pick up a cheesesteak to earn your reward- they’re well worth the calories. You’ll be biting into the delicious meat and cheesy goodness and a soft, fresh roll.
